Workshops & Clinics
Calendar
Join us for these Online Clinics and intensive In-person Workshops, where you’ll work with our guides to develop your voice acting skills.
This clinic is designed to help you wherever you are in the demo process, from ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’ to ‘I think I have what I need, but I want to be sure.’ Ideally participants bring scripts they wish to work on with the express intent of whether or not these should be on their demos: does this character play well? Does it suit the actor? Does it need tweaking, or even to be taken out of consideration? How do others react to it? A real-world audience for feedback, PLUS a director to help you through the thought process and improvements.
The audition comes to your inbox. It seems so obvious what they're looking for. How do you differentiate yourself? What's too safe and what's too far?
We're going to take you to boundary edges and explore the nuances that are the difference between a perfectly nice audition and something that makes casting directors sit up and say “that's our actor.” You must come prepared to work and to be pushed, as well as to offer thoughtful, constructive feedback as well as take it. Because the work you put in here when you have an audience will serve you well when you're alone in your booth.
This will be limited to 12 actors and will be two intensive, full days. If you're ready to go for the bigger projects, the more visible roles, and the memorable characters, come join me.
You have license to be imaginative and create, with a bit of adherence to the guideposts along the way. Create characters you can believe in with risks and stakes YOU feel are worth fighting for. By emotionally committing, you will deliver something compelling and ultimately original. More often than not, originality gets the gig!
Actors will receive scripts the day before, and they will choose one and record an audition, just as they would an actual gig. In session, each audition will be analyzed and re-directed by a Director, with the actor reading live in front of the group.

Combat is so much more than attacks, hits, and deaths - it involves terror, stress and boredom; heroism and confusion; survival and moral choices. Most of us will never be in combat situations, yet it’s commonplace in video games. This clinic puts a granular focus on these aspects so that actors will not only be better prepared for actual combat games, but for any conflict resolution and realism, even when the only weapons are words.

“I auditioned for a role in a video game the day after we got back. I looked over the notes from your class before I recorded to get in the right frame of mind. AND I GOT THE ROLE! My FIRST audition after your class!!! Thank you so much! If that isn't proof for your pudding, I don't know what else you need!”

“Gillian is a voice actor’s dream to work with! She is totally an actor’s director - her deep and personal understanding of the craft means she can diagnose really quickly what might be holding back a truthful performance. And then, she offers the most helpful and practical tools to find your way into that authentic performance. I learned so much in the two day workshop with her, I’m still processing all the amazing tips and methods she offered that I want to incorporate into my own work. And on top of all that, she’s just the nicest human being!”
-Bronwen Price
"I find the workout groups uniquely challenging. Not because of the usual reasons: making choices on the spot, performing said quick choices to a group of people you've never met, etc. But rather, because they force you to put the director's hat on. In that role, your job is not to criticize. Your job is to get the best performance you can out of the actor… So yes, these workout groups are great for practicing your craft. But the real value, I think, lies in the fact that, unlike in the vast majority of classes and workshops out there, they don't teach you how to be an actor. They teach you how to be a director."

“I have had the pleasure of working with Gillian Brashear several times in 2022 and every single time it has been an eye opening and personally ground breaking experience. As a director, Gillian has a clear understanding of what is required by the performers and with her acting background she has a real empathy for the actor and clearly relays what is needed to bring out an emotionally authentic performance. Working with Gillian, I was able to reconnect with playfulness and imagination. Oh, and did I mention she has a great instinct for what will bring out the best in you?”
-Camilla Laxton
“After attending the workshop hosted by Gillian at the Jukebox Studio in London, I felt better equipped to handle auditions in a professional environment. My initial concerns of fast paced readings or lack of time spent on the individual were quickly dispersed. The two day session with Gillian saw us explore a range of characters and styles along with exploring common themes that pop up in the industry. We also had one on one directing sessions and i felt i had the freedom to learn and try new things.”
- Rob Wilson (Actor and Workshop attendee)
“‘Hold Your Hags’ is a masterclass on how to find and maintain truthfulness in video game performances, no matter how fantastical the setting. Regardless of whether you're a seasoned pro or new to voice over for video games, Gillian and Randall will offer insightful, personalised advice and tips on how to elevate your performance. On top of all that - it's a safe, supportive environment and a lot of fun. I can't recommend it enough!”
- Amanda Rischel
“The workshop was very enjoyable, with plenty of gold nuggets to take forward to actual performances and recordings. Both directors are very precise and thoughtful in their directions. I would heartily recommend it.”
- Stephane Cornicard
“I really enjoyed Get Real and then Get Funky! Both Randall and Gillian were warm and GREAT directors. I particularly enjoyed the format of the workshop, having us work our scripts with Gillian first working on our acting choices, then with Randall to work on character development. Too often they are both jumbled together, so I felt this approach helped me understand the differences and nuances of both. Being in the studio at Voice Trax West was a great experience as well. Definitely suggest this workshop!”
- David Toback
“Randall and Gillian work as a seamless team to first get to the personal truth of the character (Gillian), and then the distinct personality quirks which make that character fly (Randall). Run, don’t walk to work with them!"
